SPID is the Public Digital Identity System which assigns credentials to a person (a username and a password) with which access the online services of the public administration and other private bodies. Owning SPID, therefore, allows you to be recognized in your identity and to access, from any device (PC, tablet, smartphone), many services in aneasy, fast and secure way.
Which services can be accessed with SPID
These are mostly services provided by public administrations, from Municipalities to the State up to bodies such as INPS and the Revenue Agency. Services that today are almost entirely accessible online. Here is a list with the most important ones.
Social security services and social benefits provided by INPS.
Reservations of medical services , consultation of one's ownhealth record,collection of reports.
Registration for school services.
Request for public benefits and contributions.
Request for social benefits and other services municipal authorities.
Tax services of the Revenue Agency.

How SPID works
The digital identity system can issuethree types of credentials (level 1, level 2, level 3) which vary based on thelevel of security required to access online services provided by the public administration.
Withlevel 1 SPID you can access services that require username and password.
WithSPID di livello 2 access to services which, in addition to username and password, require the entry of a temporary code. The code is provided to the user via text message or via the digital identity manager app with which SPID was activated.
Withlevel 3 SPID you access services which, in addition to username and password, require physical support (for example a smart card) capable of generating cryptographic keys.
Most services require level 1 or 2.
How to get SPID
The first thing to know is that you must be 18 years old. To request it you need:
A valid Italian identification document (identity card, driving license or passport).
The tax code.
An email address and an active mobile phone number.
The assignment of the SPID digital identity requires recognition to take place , by an authorized person, of the identity of the applicant. This procedure, and the subsequent release of credentials, can be done by registering directly on the website of an “enabled identity manager”, such as Poste Italiane, for example, or by going at a public office authorized to issue SPIDs and subsequently completing the online procedure via the authorized identity manager.
